16 34 136 | UMBC becomes the first 16 seed to beat a 1 seed in NCAA Men's Tournament, March 16, 2018, upsetting Virginia

As always, the script was mathematicals.

*They won the symbolic 74-points.  Maryland = 47
*128 combined points.  Maryland = 128
*Virginia went down with 54.  Upset = 54

Most importantly, this was the 34th year of a 1 seed facing a 16 seed.

NOW HERE IS WHAT IS KEY.

On the 16th of March, a 16 seed upset a #1 seed for the first time.  As I've been saying the last few years, this gimmick was bound to happen with more and more "unlikely sports stories" taking place.

Notice this year made it so that a #1 has faced a #16 136-times.

136 IS THE 16TH TRIANGULAR NUMBER

If you listened to this week's radio show, we talked about the significance of 136 and 16 in regards to the tournament.

The 16 vs 1 format began in 1985.  Basketball = 85

The term March Madness began in '85.  (64 teams) (March Madness = 64)

This is the 34th March Madness.  Maryland = 34

34x4 = 136

167, the 39th prime number.
